popcorn, i love that. it has a very specific feel to it, and it's actually giving me chills right now as i listen to it.
I tried out for this thing called Allstars today, which is a part of this school of rock shindig i do, being the most prestigious level of it you can get into. i've been part of it for 2 years now but try outs are always really stressful. it's fun because we have opportunities to play with famous people and we get to go on a two week tour over the summer and play awesome venues. the first part required of the audition required that I play a Zeppelin song, the solo after it is much more interesting i think.

So I got this club at school and we try to put on a show every other tuesday and since.ive joined the group ive been wanting to play. The venue.is a small coffee shop and the host said any genre is fine, but I have a feeling drums would just wreck that place. So I was thinking about reincarnating williams minions into something smaller. Probably my bro.on some kind of percussion to keep the beat and the music taking more of a soundscape psychedelic type deal. Or maybe prereocrded drum beats I can loop on my own. Has anyone had experience with drum machines/sequencers? What are xome good/ easy to.use

loved the solo man. Do you use a double pedal or just single usually?

I was looking at some older jams and am still just floored at some of the sounds I got. I don't know what was going on but it just really got some cool stuff. Mostly using the phaser. I clipped this off and put it on sound cloud. Feel free to listen/skim through some of it if you have time. It's really noisy at points.

thanks, mr. sky attack. i found this cassette tape in a car my dad was selling, a few days ago. it was labeled "pastor mcclam speaks: how bad do you want it". so i've decided to try my luck at "sampling"... http://soundcloud.com/creeztofurrr/mcclam-speaks-the-truth

I've used a few: Korg Electribe ES - easiest sampler ever, but can sound shitty by default if you don't take the time to resample stuff through the eq/filters. the older ones only do multiples of 12 or 16 beats/measure which might or might not be a deal killer.
Alesis SR-16 - this is like a pen & sketchpad for me. can't sample or change the sounds but you can do any time signature and the editing functions can lead to weird variations of patterns. easy to circuit bend too! the Alesis SR-18 and Akai XR20 are both newer versions of this (Numark = music Unilever?), but bizarrely missing a few of the useful copy/paste type functions.
MPC 1000 with JJ OS - sampler, kind of like a combination of the above two, but it also works as a midi sequencer for other gear. as complicated and full of weird hidden shortcuts as any software though it's not too hard to use once you learn. the one disadvantage is, aside from sliders and muting/unmuting tracks, there is not a lot to add variation in playback, such as lfos, arpeggiators, or a flexible song mode. to save money, buy used, do not buy an MPC 500.
also I haven't used but would recommend looking into the Boss DR-202, Yamaha RM1X, or Elektron Machinedrum. or Ableton Live on a laptop.
Nice playing dude, the feel you have for the drums is really good. Solid but free-style playing is the best, that's how I play on both drums and bass guitar.
Any news on that drum track? looking forward to working on another Fordrum track

Thanks man I will have to look into some of these. Do any of these have the capabilities of storing/loading your own kick/snare/whatever sounds into it?

no prob and yeah, anything called a sampler does that. the electribe, mpc, the more expensive version of the machinedrum, I think there's also a sampler version of the DR-202 and the Rm1x. vintagesynth.com is great for looking these up too.

Here is some music from my band (i'm the bassist). These are pretty cheap recordings from our rehearsal space and sound the way they sound because we have absolutely no idea how to record professionally or how to make things sound "fat" or "good". But who really gives a fuck if the energy is there? I thought people around here would be more appreciative since lightning bolt has been promoting noisy music since the era of tamagotchi Have fun!!!

first of all props for reppin' the lil scuzzy!!
Just listened to "Empathy" and it sounds really good, you're both incredibly tight. For how long have you two been playing together? And how do you recreate the overlapping basslines in a live setting, are you using a delay pedal or a sampler?
For some reason, maybe because of your bass tone, it made me think of oldskool squarepusher stuff. "Feed Me Weird Things" is a must-have for every bass player out there: check it out, if you haven't already.

thank you for the nice words 4dharm glad you liked it, i love that lil scuzzy EP and i'm madly in love with everything zach hill puts out, i take any opportunity i get to self-promote him and the bolt (obviously) i normally just play the main riff live but i've been looking around for a good looper/sampler/manipulator/device/explorer pedal to emulate a lot of it and add even more layers over the top sounds good, we've been working on a more drum n bass esque track with distorted bass and a funky beat like your other bands name, sounding ggggrroovvvyyy

I'm really digging what you guys have put up. Book marked a few. Here's a sample of what I have to offer. I do all the music. Stefany sings. http://13-monsters.tumblr.com/post/18190....er-safety#notes We do everything 1 take per track ( mistakes and all). We use one Sampson portable podcasting mic. A macbook. And garage band. 1988 Ludwig drums. A Hammer guitar. a Gallien Krueger acoustic jazz guitar combo amp. If I learned anything from Lightning Bolt it's that anything is possible with any instruments/amps/mics. I hate shiny new expensive stuff Hope ya like it. Jamie ( thejc3 twitter)
korg, i love the sounds you can make! makes me feel like i'm in a retro video game, which is awesome. nugget, you can sure get some pretty crazy sounds out of your pedals!

wow sky- the free jazzy noise breakdown thing was awesome!
been experimenting with a friend doing more of a concrete sound lately (more drone but not sleepy with the same textures that i work with) will have to put it on sound cloud to share with y'all definitely hard noise but she brings some playful qualities...

"Over all, I think the main thing a musician would like to do is give a picture to the listener of the many wonderful things he knows of and senses in the universe... that's what I would like to do. I think that's one of the greatest things you can do in life and we all try to do it in some way. The musician's is through his music." - John Coltrane

I posted in it's own thread already, but I play in a noisy two-piece called Boogie Monster, which is JUST the monster that hides under kids' beds, not the monster that boogie's as many people think (you can spell it that way as I officially wikapediaed).
I just recorded a new demo for our second album at the recording school I go to, you can check it out here:
